a helpful nothing

Hate me when I smile,
Just means I’ll walk an extra mile,
To break this family war,
Lock me out of the screen door.

I was a thief and an addict,
Moments of clarity were sporadic,
And the times I could remember,
Sent chills up my back.

Another time, another place,
Another me, and another random face,
Waking up in a room,
That I have never seen before.

Don’t take pills, or do drugs,
Drinking is a past time,
At the pubs,
You can look for answers,
In a bottle,
But they have nothing there for you.

Fake a friend, fake
home,
Let me know you want to be alone,
And I’ll find a different table,
Set for fools and their fables.

Never wanted money,
Or new things,
No plasma screen,
No bling bling,
Just a pay me what you owe me,
And I’ll be on my way,
